Interview with a wargamer: Fransisco pt.1

Still here in Chile and this is the time to interview some cool people that hangs about and lives and plays here.

A couple of posts back I introduced Francisco, a 40k Warhammer player and all around good guy.
Today we are going to talk about some of the pieces he is currently adding to his army and of course the Space Marine Chapter he has made for himself, with a solid background, good story and great color scheme. I must say that he has put a lot of thought and dedication on bringing life into his chapter.

Before we start, I do have the live interview on the link below. The only thing is that we made it in Spanish,
So, for you guys that do not speak the language I have made this little recompilation of the interview.
Enjoy.

Here we present Francisco’s Scarlet Wyrm Chapter of Space Marines.
A little history behind the choosing and inspiration of the chapter.
Francisco wanted to base his chapter on the Arthurian lore (Y’know, King Arthur and the knight’s of the round table)
To start from the top of the chain of command, the Chapter Master of the Scarlet Wyrms is Uther, the name derived from the father of Arthur.
Some of the fluff of the chapter is that they derived from the Imperial Fists, they got their own world and as you can see from the banner of the 2nd chapter even got a moon that is a forge world.
The Color scheme has his own history. It all began with the name of the Chapter, The Scarlet Wyrm. Where does it come from? Well to tell a short story about it In the Arthurian lore, Uther, the father of Arthur, goes about attacking and conquering. There is one guy King Vortigen, that tries to build a huuuuge tower to defend himself from the thrashing Uther, but the friggin’ tower keeps on falling each time it is built. So, this guy ask a young Merlin for help, and Merlin finds out that the tower keeps falling down because there are two dragons nuki’n it out under the tower. Well, beneath the rock where the tower is placed, I guess.  One of them is a White dragon and the other is Red. The red one representing Arthur.  Hence, the name of the Chapter, Scarlet Wyrm.
Talking about the color Scheme, Francisco thought about painting them red, but didn’t want his army to get confused with Blood Angels, cos’ he doesn’t like them at all. He wanted to rescue the red, but did not wanted to be the central piece. Sooo he got some help from a friend of his in Bolter and Chainsword. There he got all the help he needed to finish of his Fluff and to make a color scheme he could be pleased with. At first he started to play a little with different color schemes, Like White and Golden and to keep the red on the weapons, but painting in white is a pain. To change the white into a silver color would have made the scheme way to bright, so Francisco opted for the grey.
The grey on the body and he wanted the red to be a little more “out there” since the color is a important factor of the chapter. He did not want the weapons just to have it. So he made the shoulder guard red too. Nice and balanced, and no one can mistake them for Blood Angels, hehe.
The Chapter does follow a lot of the teachings of the Codex Astartes, the only difference that I saw was that the veterans instead of laurels indicating veterancy they got the little “crown” on the helmet and the little “crown” on the backpack painted red. As for the rest, there is the usual, white helmets on terminators, and rims painted white on the shoulder guard of the veterans.
The look that Francisco wanted was a knightly look, but since there is short supply of helms that are “sealed” or have this knightly look to them (like the one of the Grey Knights use, some of the Dark Angel’s Ravenwing have. The Dark Templar and also have them, and the helms the Champions have that knightly look)  he had to make some twitch’s. Keeping the sealed helms for high ranking officers and special characters.
Francisco showed me a great variety of models and innovative conversions. From his own Sergeant Chronus version to his Drop Pod super objective and his Ultra cool converted Master of the Forge with Conversion Beamer.
